UNITAS TV - News

Good morning. On the forefront, we begin today's news with reference to the now popular substance tagged "Holiness". Yet another street swipe has been made by the police to find the source pushing this illegal substance.
According to our sources, the honorable Maor of Unitas, Chelo Ricardo Parimo, has said that all arrests made in this case will put to rest, once and for all, the rumors flying around political figures, himself included, claiming, or rather suggesting that those in power are the distributors of this drug.

As it is well known, for the past five years, this sometimes lethal, powder form orange drug, is being trafficked by persons of international mafia clans, that wonder among the citizens of the port town of Unitas.

UNITAS a film by Kostis Bassogiannis, References

The Midpoint and Central Scene of UNITAS
Based on Three Masterpieces

"Pulp Fiction" by Quentin Tarantino (1994)

"Faces" by John Cassavetes (1968)

The overdose scenes of Quentin Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction" and John Cassavete's "Faces", gave me the first initiative to make my own version of a tough tradition beginning with Otto Preminger's "The Man With the Golden Arm" back in 1955.

In UNITAS the scene of Lily's crisis comes after a sex scene in which the couple, once more in their miserable life, really experiences the sentimental and existential gap of atomism. They are functional UNITS of a UNITY of morons. Their dreams have been practically UNIFIED in the hunt of a fancy substance which gives them their vital falsehood. I painted this powder orange-red, to differentiate it from a simple narcotic, to make it a coloured symbol of the UNIFICATION of the idiotic parts of a machinery world.

The style, the atmosphere and some traces of Chris and Lily's characters come to show up in Lily's Crisis Scene in about the middle of the film. But this scene could not have been done by me and the two excellent actors I had the fortunate opportunity to direct, if these three extraordinary masterpieces didn't exist.

In Unitas, the famous harbor of Eutopia, alias Utopia or New Ampelos, or New Atlantis, also Known as International Community or Free World, or Kithera and numerous other wonderful names, a large number of citizens live in wealth, happiness and order. A larger number of people live as Chris and Lily do. People are dancing and singing in the streets of UNITAS under the influence of an illegal orange – red drug. Sometimes they want to fly, but there is nowhere they can go.

Chris, a drug dealer, and Lily, a prostitute, live in the forgotten port town of UNITAS. Lily wants to leave behind the misery they live in. She wants to fly far away. Chris is hesitant and fearful. Lily abandons him. Chris realizes he can not live without her, “Ok, we’ll fly”. Lily is now fearful. In the port of Unitas, Chris and Lily prepare to spread their wings and take flight, risking it all. Will their strength last, or will it fade? How strong are the wings and will of Chris and Lily? Will they take flight? Will they crash and burn, falling once more in the poorly woven nest that is called Unitas?
